22 Year Holiday
One of the many Travel Lodges across Britain
They began this lifestyle in 1985 whilst visiting an elderly aunt who had become ill in Staffordshire, England. When the aunt died four months later the couple left their flat and moved into a travelodge in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
They stayed there for twelve years until 1997 when they decided it was time to make a new home in Grantham, Lincolnshire where they are still living today.
David Davidson aged 79 said that the hotel staff are ”like family now” and that he doesn’t regret their strange accommodation for one minute. "We get great rates because we book well in advance and all our bed linen is laundered too," Mr Davidson said convincingly.
He also enjoys the meal arrangements saying ”We only have to walk across the car park for meals ... alternatively we go to local eateries for a bite to eat.”
He and his wife also find this strange yet comfortable arrangement has helped them became more financially sound saying, "For us it's a better and cheaper option than an old people's home and we're well looked after."
Over the years the couple's unique lifestyle has cost them in excess of £97,000 ($238,270), which in today's rates could have bought them a two-bedroom house in the exact same area they are living in now.
