The Bachelor

The Bachelor Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas

On Thursday July 24, 2008 it was reported that Matt Grant, 27, and Shayne Lamas, 22, had split apart after matching up on The Bachelor. The couple denied rumors of their break up many times, despite not showing up anywhere in public. last month, Grant stated "This stuff makes us stronger", however, the couple broke it off earlier this month. The couple released a joint statement "We tried hard to make it work but we realized that we were both heading in different directions, We truly care about each other and will remain close friends."

They are not the first Bachelor couple to break it off. In fact, they are number ten out of eleven to break it off. Which begs the question, is the show really worth it? The sad moments where many contestants get their heart broken, and the triumphant moment a couple is made. Then you watch the news only to find out that they break it off.

I personally do not think it is worth it. To go on that show, and expose everything to America, only to break it off. Actually, I think part of the reason they do break it off is because they were on the show. First of all, you may be more secretive and guarded on camera, then when they go off camera they are more honest with each other. I also think that they basically get turned into, for lack of a better word celebrities, which puts a lot of pressure on the couples.

Then again, maybe it is the heartache, rather than the love that drives people to this show.
