New Firefox Browser

New Firefox Browser Firefox 3 Logo

After nearly three years of development, Mozilla has announced Firefox 3 will be released on Tuesday June 17, 2008. Users can expect a a new and improved design, as well as security and speed advancements.

The new version of the browser is said to be equipped with a cornucopia of new features. Some of these features include the ability to resume downloads midway if the connection is broken and the ability to add keywords and search tags to bookmarks. By adding these keywords, users will then be able to classify their bookmarks by topic. Designers have also updated the password manager feature.

Security has been improved on the new Firefox browser as well. With the new updates, Firefox will no longer just warm against phishing sites, but block them, as well as sites that have a reputation for distributing harmful software such as viruses. The list of sites that will be blocked was generated by scholars from Harvard and Oxford university, Google Inc. and StopBadWare.org. This feature can be disabled however, if for some reason a user needs to access sites on this list.

Mozilla is not alone in launching new browsers. The Microsoft Corporation has been testing Internet Explorer 8 and Opera Software ASA released Opera 9.5 on June 12, 2008. Currently, Firefox sits as the second most popular web browser, behind Internet Explorer.
