1950's Revival
Shirt from the 1950's
Some may argue that this is taking vintage one step to far. 1950's fashion was limited. The world had just recovered from war and clothing was expensive and hard to come by. No wonder one's clothing reflected their social status. Despite these factors, in the late 1950's fashion really took off and many of our vintage idols, namely Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, were featured heavily in the limelight. The 1950's were the foundations of change for the the 1960's. A defining point in not only fashion, but all aspects of society.
Designers are always looking into the past, studying our 'archaic' styles and trends that shaped the twentieth century, only to reinvent them and adapt them once again to today's world. It will be interesting to see if the trend will catch on. I guess we will have to wait and see.
Let's have a break from the skinny jeans and bold colours of the twenty-first century, bring back sophistication. Fair enough cardigans have made a recent appearance but I want to see more. Let Sinatra be our inspiration. The dark shades of blue, gray and brown need to be back on the scene. The gray flannel suit shall once again reign supreme. Forget the ankle swingers (some things are best left in the past) and bring back some good old 1950's conservative culture.
