Peter Doherty, better known as Pete, says that he can reunite his first band with Carl Barât, The Libertines while still working on his solo career and his Babyshambles work.

Doherty, whom a lot people know for his former relationship with supermodel Kate Moss and drug addiction, denied in an interview with Babelgum, where he was promoting his new single ‘Broken Love Song’, that the three projects would be too much to take on.

“Even though people presume that Babyshambles was a substitute band, it existed back in the day alongside The Libertines,” Peter said, referring to that he first started working under the name Babyshambles before The Libertines even got a hit with ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ in 2004.

Although the Libertines split in 2004 when Carl Barât kicked Doherty out of the band and started ‘Dirty Pretty Things’, there have been rumours about the Libertines getting back together since 2006.

On the 16th of May 2009, Doherty, Barât and drummer Gary Powell reunited at a tribute gig to the late Johnny Sedassy at the London Rhythm Factory. It was the first time they played live since their split.

“It’s not weird having all three [bands] going, it’s ideal. It’s what I want, just to make music and then perform it or release it in a way that’s the most natural.” he continued.

Doherty admitted that some of the material he wrote isn’t suitable for either the Libertines or Babyshambles, as they are too personal.

“Sometimes doing Libertines songs with Babyshambles just doesn’t feel right - for them and for me. In the same way that back in the Libertines days playing certain songs that were all about how much I hated playing songs with the Libertines. I wasn’t really happy playing [those songs] with the Libertines. I had to get another band on the go.” he said.
